Sad news for the entire PD community

It is with deep and profound sadness that we acknowledge that J Henk Sillevis Smitt, age 64, our valued colleague and also a friend, succumbed to his previously diagnosed PSMA on Monday, 26 March 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife Hilda and his children Josephine and Willem.
He started as a general dermatologist with special interest in pediatric dermatology back in 1983. He submitted his PhD thesis on ‘Dermatological and immunological aspects of congenital immune disorders’ in 1992. Lately he has been working as a senior consultant in pediatric dermatology and as head of the sub department of Pediatric Dermatology in the department of Dermatology of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) Amsterdam and also as a senior consultant in pediatric dermatology of the Department of Dermatology in the Free University Medical Center (VUmc) Amsterdam.
J Henk’s research topics of special interest included primary immunodeficiencies, genodermatoses, and vascular tumours and malformations. Among his personal interests, photography and tennis cannot be certainly omitted.
J Henk contributed as well to the professionalization of numerous specialized bodies: he was member of the Board of Directors of the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ESPD), chairman of the Dutch task force on Genodermatoses, advisory board member in the Paediatric Dermatology task force of the Dutch Society of Dermatology and Venereology and member of the medical advisory board of two patient associations – Dutch Atopic Dermatitis (VMCE) and Dutch Ehlers Danlos (VED).
It is for sure and without a doubt that the field of pediatric dermatology has just lost a significant figure, needless to say that J Henk will be certainly missed also personally, and his friends and colleagues will keep a more profound memory of him. A memory of gentle and nice person, of his warm and hearty personality.

We at the ESPD are truly moved by this sad news.
